Automatic calibration is useful in heavily contaminated areas—the unit automatically recalibrates (re-zeroes) to ambient levels, which stops the constant alarm, only responding to higher levels of refrigerant; this allows the unit to search for the true source of the leak
Manual calibration—useful for smaller leaks; this also allows for recalibration to ambient levels, but only when the user chooses to do so (user may want the calibration to remain constant while searching for small leaks)
